yo is it a Thing in the bible that at one point jesus was hellishly tormented by the voice of god, causing him pain and convulsions and terrifying, uncertain visions? or is that just this movie doing a really cool and interesting interpretation of jesus? i dont know a whole lot of bible stuff
there’s a bit where the big J is in the garden of gethsemanee (iirc) and he prays to god asking him to take this cup away from him, the cup representing the sacrifice/death. from a more or less objective storytelling perspective, it serves to highlight jesus’s mortality, that he fears death. we all know, of course, that he rises from the grave (at least according to the story, personal beliefs aside)—but the easter story is much more compelling when we know that jesus *doesn’t* know he’s coming back, that he’s scared, that even his faith is tested.
